Jeans have become the backbone to the much of the world’s wardrobe. No matter what race colour or gender you are, you probably own a pair. Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a daunting task despite the vast choice we as the consumer have. As a female the choice is even bigger, and knowing what fit and style to go for can be even more daunting when there are a million and one options available.
Before your next shopping trip arm yourself with a few key points to make the task of finding the perfect pair of jeans easier. The key is also to try on as many pairs as possible to determine comfort and of course determine whether they create the effect you desire. Follow the points listed below and you will be on the way to finding that perfect pair of jeans that not only make you look like a million dollars but also make you feel like a billion dollars.
The cut
The first place you need to start would be the cut of the jeans. There’s a huge variety of cuts out there, and each brand is continually re-inventing a new cut to ensure that they are one step ahead of their competitors. But having said that there are essentially four basic cuts for women.
The first being the straight cut jean. This is by far the most popular simply because they look good on most bodies. They tend to be a little fitted at the top and then are cut straight from the thighs all the way down to the ankles.
The next in line would be the boot-cut, which is slightly more relaxed and flare at the calf allowing room for boots. It is not of course essential to wear them with boots, they are great with any style of shoe and they create a flattering shape, which makes them suitable for most body types and ages.
Then you have flared jeans, which are a slimmer cut from the waist down to the knees, hugging the thighs and then the flare out at the calves. This style is great if you are looking for something that has a more slimming shape.
Then finally we get to the skinny, which is currently the biggest craze. This is a style that should be worn with caution if you don’t have the right figure and attitude. But if you are looking to show off a great figure then this is the style to go for because of the extreme figure hugging nature. They are cut to be tight from the waist down to the ankle.
The fit
Then you get to the fit of the jeans and there are essentially three fits.
The regular fit is probably the most popular, because it’s a happy medium between loose and tight. It’s comfortable to wear yet still fitted enough to create a feminine look.
The relaxed as the name suggests is a more causal fit, not as fitted as the other styles and great for the weekends and less formal occasions. It’s also one of the more comfortable fits because of its slightly more baggy nature. It is however important to remember that very baggy jeans can give you the appearance of being much heavier than you actually are.
Then you have fitted, which is a more figure-hugging look, which is designed to help elongate the body and create the illusion of being slimmer. To help create this look you find that many of the jeans have a stretch in them. This makes it a lot easier to manoeuvre in your jeans and helps them to mould to the shape of your body. But just because they have a stretch it doesn’t mean that you can go for smaller sizes because this tends to just shift the excess weight to the top creating the undesirable muffin top.
The rise
Lastly you need look at the rise of the jeans. Essentially you have high and low rise, and now ultra low rise. The key point to remember is that the high rise tends to emphasize the size of your stomach and an ultra low rise has the tendency to reveal your entire backside when you crouch or sit down. The ideal position is for your jeans to sit is just below you belly button.
Last points
Lastly try on as many pairs as you can, ultimately you are looking for both comfort and style. When trying on your jeans test that you can sit and squat in them without them feeling too tight. While you are doing this it’s a great opportunity to check and see how low your rise goes. There’s nothing more unflattering than seeing someone’s entire backside and underwear.
Also another interesting tip is to check the back pockets. The pockets can make a huge difference to the appearance of you derrière. If you have a larger behind, then avoid having small or no pockets at the back of your jeans, this only makes you bum look bigger. Rather opt for larger pockets, which will help detract the eye from your backside. And then visa versa for smaller bums go for something with less pockets.
Another thing to avoid for everyone would be pockets that sit quite low, this only helps create the illusion of having a saggy bum which is not attractive to anyone.
So finding the perfect pair of jeans will no longer be a daunting task, so go out there and conquer the world with your new favourite jeans.
